Home is Everything

January 9, 2014

We pulled thick glittery ribbon from it’s thoughtful placed bow, and excitedly unwrapped our gift exchanges. A little post Holiday get together full of catching up and dreaming forward. Light hearted and deep. Laughter and tears.

We celebrated an amazing year for all of us. Big things. Big Steps.

And with one collective sigh of relief, we agreed that Home is Truly Everything. The hustle of the traveler was part of us all, but right now we were all home. Curtains hung and rug laid kind of home. Fresh baked cookies and laundry folded kind of home. And right now. Home was everything.

When I was a little girl someone made me a doll house. And oh how I loved that doll house. I would save every penny to buy a new pot for the kitchen and clock for the wall. Tiny bags of flour, and a food dish for the pet dog. Picture frames for the walls and tiny pillows for the tiny beds.  It was a perfect house.

In the grown up world we know that there is no such thing as a perfect house. The laundry may never be completely folded and the curtains may not be hung. The floor may replace a child’s toy with three for every one you pick up and put away. But even imperfect, Home is everything.

This year I give myself permission to stop the todo list and bake cookies from scratch. To garnish with fresh herbs on a Tuesday. To lay on the floor with the kids even my email inbox is blinking. To soak up home.

Because Home is Everything. And Home is what matters most.

Perfect! Something I too have just recently learned, again. <3
