Baby Landon Arrives

Yesterday I had the most incredible honor of photographing my first birth. Some told me that I would most likely pass out. (Not only was this my very first birth experience but I also HATE hospitals, and never go to them. Even though I have lived here almost 4 years I had to ask for directions!)

Then of course there were others who told me to get ready because I would never want to photograph anything else. Truthfully, it was the most amazing experience to photograph, and thankfully I stayed upright. I was surprised at how in the moment I became with my camera despite the immense pain my friend was experiencing. Birth photography is not as common as I believe it should be. The family could focus and be in the moment instead of worrying about the camera. Those first expressions when they see their child for the first time? Captured. The way he held your hand and wiped your brow as you accomplished the most difficult, yet most natural task you will ever go through? Captured.

In fact that’s exactly what I am there to photograph. The emotion of the experience.

Gosh I may tear up all over again as I look through these images this morning.

Lauren was. incredible. She really was. And to see her face as she got to see her miracle, the baby that she and her husband has prayed for all those years. To see him in her arms, healthy and strong. Was simply the absolute greatest honor.

Birth still blows me away. To think that the last time Landon was in front of my camera he looked like this..

Here are some of my favorites from yesterday, from the first time this new father saw his son, to the first time they got to hold him. It’s not about the perfect light or the perfect pose. It’s only about the connection.

My heart is full friends, my heart. is. full.
