If you are in the business world and have never heard of Seth Godin, then you probably live under a rock. Famous for his books like Purple Cow, and LinchPin: Are You Indispensable, he also has a fantastic blog to which I check out as often as I can. The guy, is a business genius.
It wasn’t long before I jumped into the world of photography before quickly realizing that it was more then just getting paid to take pictures of people. It was way more.
In fact, I would say it is about 90% running a business, and 10% actually using my camera. And I say this because I wish that someone had told me this when I started. Not that I have regrets, I am learning to love the business side. But I would have started reading Seth’s books before I started.
His post this morning, almost made me laugh. You know, when something hits you so nail on the head for where you are at- that you just have to laugh? I was JUST talking to my wonderful friend last night about the different seasons of my business. This is what he had to say.
Truth my friends. Straight up truth.
So my photographer friends, when you aren’t booking a thousand dream shoots and running ten thousand miles a minute….what are you doing to make your business better? What are you doing to cultivate creativity and inspiration? Are you dreaming? Are you writing down goals?
Are you making. things. happen. ?
“Probably worth investing some effort into our performance there….”
