A couple months ago, I had a business mentoring session with two photographers in my city, Justin & Mary, who I have the utmost respect for. A main topic of conversation was branding. I knew it was my weakness. And I knew it was their strength.
I walked away from that session with more ideas, vision, and direction than I could have hoped for. One suggestion that Mary gave me, was to look into working with Ravyn from 315 Design.
I knew that in order to take the brand where I wanted it to go, that she was right. I needed to work with a professional. I wanted to look and feel a certain way, but didn’t know the steps that I needed to get there.
Insert Ravyn’s genius here.
The beginning of the process includes coming up with an inspiration board. I was instructed by both herself and Mary, to spend some serious time collecting things that speak to me. She asked me to create a Pinterest board of sorts, from patterns and textures to colors to images. Anything and everything.
The funny part was, that one of my biggest frustrations in my current brand was the simple decisions of picking a color scheme. I could not decide a ribbon color for my packaging to save my life. One day I wanted lace, the next I wanted glitter, and so on. I specifically collected images of brands I adore, and fonts that jumped out at me. And by the time I was done, my color scheme had already been created! I looked at all my images as a I created a board to send to her, and was amazed at how I chose images all within the same color scheme without even thinking about it.
After I sent her the board, we had an amazing phone conversation. She wanted to know everything from what my life is like, my dreams, how I became a photographer, my style, etc. So I did what I did best, I rambled, in the hopes that it would somehow make sense. She took the combination of images I sent her, and the things I told her in conversation and then made what she calls a Branding Inspiration Board. This is to represent how the new brand will feel to my future clients who work with me. That I should I be able to look at this board, and feel like it was the best representation of myself, my vision, and where I was headed.
I thought to myself, well all I want to do is jump inside my board and LIVE there so that HAS to be a good sign. I want to smell that french roast coffee and wear that cream cable knit. I want a brand that is the truest representation of myself. A luxury in that every client experience is intimate, special, and timeless. Comfortable in that every client feels that they can let their guard down and be real in front of my camera, allowing me to capture portraits of raw emotion and close knit moments. I believe that 315 Design it the nail on the head with this one friends.
I cannot WAIT to see what she comes with for everything else. Do yourself a favor and head over to her Website, her Facebook, and leave her some love. If your business needs branding services, I could not recommend another more.
So what do YOU think of the new Design board? What’s the first thing you think when you look at it? Leave me a comment, I want to know!
