I first met Lauren at a Stella & Dot jewelry party about a year ago. I remembered how much I loved her boots. Ok envied. I envied her boots. The conversation, as it so usually tends to, eventually made its way to the subject of photography. I had been brainstorming a few styled shoots for the summer and since we hit it off, I knew I wanted her to be involved. Little did I know that was just the beginning of not only an incredible client relationship, but a close friendship that I value. I have fallen in love with photographing Lauren, and squeal at every opportunity. Lauren has such an eye for fashion and we share the same values when it comes to portraiture- timeless, emotive, and authentic.
I have had the honor of photographing Lauren and her husband Pat twice for different sessions, as well as a few different occasions for her modeling work with Guess Watches. Lauren runs her own blog that is full of fashion, DIY, and maternity tips and advice. If you’re expecting, follow Lauren along at Our Hiding Place!
Planning this maternity session with Lauren has been an absolute blast. I was actually a little sad when it was over! But since Lauren has invested in my Motherhood Collective, I know I will soon be photographing two more sessions within the year when this little one arrives! Lauren’s maternity session was two parts. We first photographed in the Hartford glamour studio of Alicia Candelora of No Eye Has Seen Photography. We wanted very intimate and reflective images, and vintage lace covered our inspiration board.
Also during the first part of the session, we focused on more of a boudoir style to be cherished for her and her husband only. Like myself, Lauren believes that maternity is so beautiful and we wanted to capture this time in her life with gorgeous intimate portraits. The selected portraits you will see featured below are all shared with permission. I never would want my clients to feel uncomfortable for sharing images that she wants to enjoy with her husband alone.
After our time at the glamour studio, we drove to a beach to meet her husband Pat just in time for sunset. Lauren wanted every aspect of her session to be entirely different and unique. So rather than the typical sunset portraits, Lauren rented a beyond stunning Badgley Mischka gown from Rent the Runway. She had such an amazing experience with this company. They not only sent her two sizes for the cost of one, to be sure she had the perfect fit, they also sent her an mini emergency beauty kit. (Something we totally ended up needing at the beach!) Lauren’s glamorous professional makeup job was done by Erin Infantino of Simply Gorgeous By Erin.
As you will soon get see in the near future, I am working on a project with Lauren that tells more of her story, but it is important that I explain why this session was so special to me. Yes, I have photographed her as a client and as a model. I have gotten to know her on that level and am forever grateful. But as her friend, I have watched her on this path to becoming an expecting mom. There has been heartache along the way, but God is faithful and as you can see she is now pregnant with her first child. A baby boy whom they have named Landon. An absolute miracle. A true gift from God. As I hand-edited each of these portraits, and as my photoshop brush would sweep over her bulging belly, I found myself with tears in my eyes on more than one occasion. Even writing this now. God is just SO good. You know? He is just so, so good.
Little Landon, no two parents will ever love you more.
