Expecting their First Baby | Portland, ME Maternity Photographer

September 16, 2014

I am so in love with the simple elegance of this black and white maternity collection that was photographed near the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine this past weekend. Friend and fellow photographer Spring Smith Studios and her husband are expecting their first baby soon.  I have the honor of photographing their newborn session in their New Hampshire home, and I cannot wait to meet their little one! They are waiting to find out the gender until birth day which I just think is so amazing! (Although I don’t know if I could be so patient!)

We had originally planned on meeting at Two Lights State Park, also in Cape Elizabeth, however the park was not going to be open until sunset which is my favorite time to photograph, so we headed back to Fort Williams. I am so glad we did because the light was perfect and the tide was just low enough to get down close to the crashing waves. I love photographing in Maine so much!

Spring met Professional Hair & Makeup Artist Stacia Tetrault before our session, and I love the simple elegance of her hair style with the cozy texture of her sweater. I am falling more and more in love with what is simple, and letting the beauty of the portrait speak for itself. I also love that we included a few images that aren’t necessarily focused on her expecting belly, but instead capture exactly where they are at in their life right now- that excitement, that anticipation, and deep love for one another. The beauty of motherhood at it’s very beginning. They will have these portraits when they are old and gray, share a smile, and know that they were expecting their first child in that picture- even if no one else in the room knows. I just love that!

Although I am equally in love with their color images, I decided to exclusively share their black and white collection on the blog today!

She has such peace in her expression. Also, I love love love her hair. Do you know if she did this herself? Her hairstyle is at once elegant and undone.
